Consultant in the Nursing Care of Patients With Pain
Margo McCaffery, RN, MS, FAAN, is an internationally recognized consultant in the nursing care of patients with pain. A respected author and highly regarded pain care specialist, she conducts programs on pain relief throughout the world. Margo is a founding member of the International Association for the Study of Pain, and she currently has an appointment to the World Health Organization's Expert Committee on Cancer Pain Relief and Active Supportive Care. Margo has been instrumental in the development of guidelines for pain control, including those prepared by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, the American Pain Society, and the World Health Organization.
Pain Management Educator and Consultant
Chris Pasero, RN, MSNc, is a pain management specialist who provides educational and consulting services to individual practitioners and health care facilities that are interested in improving pain management for their patients. Chris is cofounder and past president of the American Society of Pain Management Nurses and serves on the board of directors of the American Chronic Pain Association. A published author, she coordinates and writes a monthly column entitled "Pain Control" for the American Journal of Nursing. As the clinical and administrative director of Acute and Chronic Pain Services at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, Chris teamed with the medical director of pain services to establish a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to providing high quality pain care for the hospital's patients. She achieved national recognition as a leader in pain management by providing monthly preceptorships that were attended by nurses, pharmacists, and physicians from across the country.
